Our theme for this coming week's stories is parenting. What is the major conflict each parent faces in these two stories? Find a quote that examines this conflict and discuss it.
This course will explore the unique experience of the woman writer. Studying works written by women from a variety of cultures, races and classes will reveal how being a woman has influenced the woman writer's creative interpretation of the human condition.

Blog #3 "Boys & Girls", "Girl"
The French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1984) famously wrote: “One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.” What de Beauvoir means here is that gender is not a natural fact, but is a social construction. Society makes women. Gender is learned behavior.
How is the social construction of gender revealed in the stories “Boys and Girls” and “Girl”? Focus on a particular example from “Boys and Girls” and find a quote to back it up.
