  1. During that time, this was the beginning of WWII. This was the bombing of Pearl Harbor where the Japanese attacked the U.S naval base. At this time they needed individuals for the war and the women were afraid that their husbands would be drafted for the war. The women were also afraid that their town would be raided and they would lose their families to this event.

Due to this enormous and dangerous event women were terrified about losing their families and husbands since women weren't allowed to participate in war around this time period. They would mostly draft men into these wars.

  5. The event that made women worried on December 7 ,1941 was the attach of Pearl Harbor. Japan without formal warning exploded the naval base of the United States; In attempts of preventing the intervention of the U.S against the plans the Japanese had against South East Asia. After declaring war to Japan the military persuaded the president Franklin D. Roosevelt to order the expulsion of Japanese descendent from the coast. Julie Otsuka in the novel describes what occurred whilst the expulsion was happening. Japanese people started to disappear inescapably. An assumption that a list was Innate for the preceding mysterious disappearances of people had in fear all the Japanese living in America. The husbands became aware of the disappearances and commenced to make changes in their life styles based on the fear of being next on the list. They wore warned , took caution and prevented of been accused of treason by burning their letters and belongings . Their relation with their wives improved ,hence there was a mutual fear of loosing one another . The chapter " traitors " focus in the experiences of the Japanese while they wait for their expulsion and removal. Over 110,000 men and women and children lived throughout this military procedures.

  7. December 7th, 1941 made the woman worry because it was when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The beginning of World War Two. They were scared that their husbands names would appear on the list so they could go to war. The woman didn't want that because they were afraid to lose their husbands and families. Woman at this time could not go to war so of course would be worry out of their minds because they wouldn't know what is going on.

  8. On December 7th 1941 hundreds of Japanese Fighter Planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. And after the attack, the Japanese Americans were seen as a threat and sent away to detention camps. And because of this the women feared their husbands name will appear on the list that will have them, the husbands, taken away from them. They lived in fear from then on because they were always scared that the list will get them when they least expect it.
